Ron Paul: War Is Bipartisan

First Interview in the “World War III” Series Is Now Live

When it comes to opposing war and to raising objections even when it is extremely unpopular and even when one is the only sole voice speaking out against collective madness, there are very few individuals alive today that have repeatedly demonstrated the courage to do so. Even among these select few, arguable no-one has been as consistent, as tireless and as consistently sidelined and maligned by the powers that be as Ron Paul.

For decades, Ron Paul has persistently warned that war is not an accident of history, nor a “necessary evil”, but the predictable outcome of concentrated power, unchecked government authority, central banking, and a foreign policy built on intervention rather than restraint. He foresaw the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East long before they erupted, as he had already identified and pointed out the structural incentives that make perpetual conflict not only possible, but inevitable. These incentives remain firmly in place, and they will still be there even after the current conflicts end. Without fundamental and deeply transformative changes at the very heart of the State machine, and without decisively removing the malignant parasite that is the military industrial complex from its host, history will keep repeating itself.

In the interview that follows, Ron Paul places today’s crises in a broader historical and institutional context that clearly explains why these same patterns keep repeating, regardless of who is in power or which slogans are used to justify intervention. He explains that it’s not even a choice; it is a necessary requirement for the current system to sustain itself. Both parties want war, because war is the health of the State. And the State itself has long been hijacked and taken over by interests that couldn’t be further from the will or the good of the people.

Regarding the Middle East front, Dr. Paul didn’t mince words. His position might sound commonsensical, but these days is career-ending to say out loud for most, if not all, US politicians: “We should treat Israel like everybody else. We should be friends with them, we should trade with them, but to allow them to dictate our budget… We have sacrificed a lot of our sovereignty to the government of Israel”. Even the obvious distinction that he made, namely that the Israeli government and the Israeli people are two different things, is today considered controversial by many. The spectrum of allowed opinions on this issue has shrunk so much that it would be comical if it wasn’t so dangerous. When criticizing the decisions and actions of the leader of a foreign nation is being construed as hatred of all its people, even the ones who actually agree with the criticisms, it is a clear sign that something foundational has been broken in a society that used to pride itself on its freedom of speech.

Dr. Paul was even more specific on the Ukraine conflict. He defiantly rejected the prevalent narrative on the causes and origin of the war. It didn’t start with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, it started with the broken promises of the US and NATO. The commitments that were made regarding Russia’s borders were flagrantly breached and the push for Ukraine to join NATO was a clear provocation. As is usually the case, Dr. Paul is right and that is further supported by the fact that Russia pursued diplomatic avenues and pushed for a peaceful resolution, as demonstrated by the 2021 draft treaty demanding Ukraine’s neutrality and a halt to NATO expansion. These efforts were summarily dismissed by the West as non-negotiable.

The current situation might seem extremely grim, however Ron Paul is an optimist at heart, and refuses to give into despair. He sees hope ahead for the next generation and the possibility for change. In the interview, he highlighted the importance of education, as the only thing that can actually make a tangible difference.

Escaping the public education system and raising children that can think for themselves is arguably the most impactful choice we can make today to help reshape the future and avoid the collision course we’re currently locked into. As he pointed out, there is a growing interest in truly private schools and in homeschooling, as more and more parents are seeing public schools for what they really are: state indoctrination camps.
